Smoky Mountain Cup Update

Earlier this week we announced that Colby Corino, Facade, Tracer X, Myron Reed, Axton Ray and Toby Farley as the first six participants named for the 2017 NWA Smoky Mountain Cup Tournament on Saturday, April 8 in Kingsport, TN at the Civic Auditorium.

Today we announce the final six competitors that will make up the tournament field:

Nobody has ever won the NWA Smoky Mountain Cup in consecutive years. Last year’s winner “Picture Perfect” Jordan Kage will attempt to become the first man to do so. The former 2-Time NWA Smoky Mountain TV champion shocked the NWA Smoky Mountain fans with his 2016 tournament win and he looks to do the same on April 8.

The man who helped Kage win last year’s tournament via interfere, Chris Richards will officially be competing in the NWA Smoky Mountain Cup this year. The last time we were at the Civic Auditorium, Richards defeated Axton Ray to become the NWA Smoky Mountain TV Champion. Can Richards maintain his momentum when we return to Kingsport?

Veteran of the Georgia wrestling scene “Do or Die” Chip Day makes his NWA Smoky Mountain debut on Saturday, April 8 in Kingsport, TN. Day has won titles all over the Eastern United States and is considered one of the best strikers in the game. If he is successful at “The Cup”, he will become the first person to ever win the tournament in their debut with the promotion.

Michael Starr has long been regarded as one of the best hi-flyers in East Tennessee. Starr has been a multi-time champion in Pro Wrestling South and has successfully defeated some of the best wrestlers in the area. On April 8, Starr will throw his name in the hat for a shot to win the NWA Smoky Mountain Cup.

“The Closer” Jeff Connelly makes his fifth NWA Smoky Mountain Cup appearance on April 8 in Kingsport. On three separate occasions Connelly has made his way to the Finals of the tournament. In 2015 he lasted until final two men, only to fall to Jax Dane. Is the year that “The Closer” finally wins the big one?

Over the last couple of years “Pro Wrestling’s Only Gymnast” Timmy Lou Retton has become a favorite of the fans in Kingsport. Retton is sure to be a crowd favorite when he competes in the tournament for the second year in a row. Last year Retton was bested by eventually tournament winner Jordan Kage in a match that he will surely never forget.
